Background:
“Tonga’s Got Talent” (TGT) is another Tika Production initiative following the success of last year’s “Up with the Stars” which saw hundreds of talented youth come forth with the potential we need to encourage. “Up with the Stars” provided the platform to encourage Tonga’s youth to take their talent to another level. Talent competition featured mainly singers. The event culminated with the finalists performing on the Heilala stage. Conducted over several weeks, this production is the brainchild of a local entrepreneur who is dedicated to the development of Tonga’s youth and their talents. At present, it is privately funded.
Tonga’s Got Talent:
This year, “Up with the Stars” has incorporated another dynamic aspect. This year, “Up with the Stars” will be the highlight as the event approaches its finale. Tika Productions is preparing to launch “Tonga’s Got Talent” as a lead up to “Up with the Stars.” This is to reflect the more diverse talents we hope to see. This lead up competition is open to all and will feature all kinds of talents. The catch is that it is an individual event. Participants can dance, sing, do tricks, perform skits and so forth but they must be done individually.
Objective:
“Tonga’s Got Talent” aims to attract a wider range of talents pooled over the weeks preceding Tonga’s most celebrated event – Heilala.
Judging:
For continuity purposes, Tika Productions is please to have the assistance of popular soprano, ‘Atolomake Helu and popular radio DJ, George Lavaka. Both bring experience from last year’s competition and a wealth of pertinent knowledge.
Those with the highest overall scores place and ultimately win. There will be no separate category.
Calendar:
“Tonga’s Got Talent” will advertise registrations in the first week of May. The competitions will be held from the 21st of May until the 26th of June, with a grand finale on July 9th during the Heilala festival on the Heilala stage!
Logistics:
“Tonga’s Got Talent” will be a “private” shoot at Kai Mai Burgers on Taufa’ahau Road. These shows will be shot on Wednesday to be aired for the general public on Friday evening.
Additional Flavour:
In further encouraging talent and raising the standard, Tika Productions has identified a host for TGT. The ideal candidate is to be witty, confident, talented and attractive. Such a candidate has been approached. He is to be candid yet respectful. He will be trendy and will become a walking advertisement for the sponsor - Kai Mai Burgers.

Registrations will be free and open once the announcements in print and on radio are made.
