The Charity Concert launched the Tonga Royal Society of Endocrinology which has been established, of whom H.M. King George Tupou V is the patron.
The performers of the concert were a combination of Tongan heritage artists and the Symphony Orchestra of China National Opera and Dance.
The Tonga Royal Society of Endocrinology was established because non-communicable diseases associated with changes in lifestyle and diet have become a major public health concern in the Kingdom of Tonga.
In his Welcome note in the Charity Concert's souvenir program, H.M. King George Tupou V observes that Tongan people are experiencing a noticeable change in disease pattern and the emergence of non-communicable diseases is a major threat to their health.
Currently, obesity affects some 60% of the adult population whilst over 10% of men and over 15% of women have been identified with type 2 diabetes.
This Charity seeks to address the health issues which are pertinent in the lives of the people of Tonga today, particularly diabetes and lifestyles diseases in general.
